Der Langstock (Bo)

Dojo Budo Studien Kreis (Gwandou) preserves the traditional Okinawan art of the Bô (Rokushaku-Bô), a 1.80m staff considered the fundamental weapon of Okinawan Kobudô. Originally a simple tool for daily life, the Bô evolved into a martial weapon practiced through kata and partner drills, emphasizing control, reaction, and continuous movement. Training develops both solo techniques and paired sequences (Bo-ji-lu/Bo-ji-dao), where no winner or loser is defined, but skill and awareness are sharpened. The dojo follows the lineage of Okinawan masters who codified their combat experience into Bô-kata, including the oldest known form, Akahachi no Gyakubô. Today, the practice of Bôjutsu remains central to traditional karate dojos, fostering discipline, resilience, and mastery of the staff.
