The Aikido Centre

Tenchi Ryu Aikido, founded in 1994 by Senseis Brian Stockwell and Graham Batchelor, is North Devon’s premier Aikido school. Rooted in the Yoshinkan style of Gozo Shioda, the Tenchi Ryu syllabus has evolved to incorporate techniques from other styles, creating a well-rounded approach. Led today by Sensei Brian Stockwell (7th Dan), the association operates as a non-profit Community Amateur Sports Club with its headquarters at a permanent dojo in Barnstaple. Tenchi Ryu emphasizes family, friendship, and personal growth, offering training for juniors and adults in a welcoming environment. With regular seminars, gradings, and community events, the dojo provides both technical excellence and a supportive martial arts community.
