Plymouth Wado Ryu Karate Club

British Wadokai Honbu (BWK-HQ) in Plymouth is the home of authentic Wadoryu Karate, teaching the original style created in 1934 by Ohtsuka Hironori Meijin (1892–1982) and promoted in the UK by Suzuki Tatsuo Hanshi (1928–2011). Founded in 1976 under the United Kingdom Karate-do Wadokai (UKKW), British Wadokai is dedicated to preserving traditional Wadoryu—“Pure Wado for Wado Purists.” The Honbu oversees affiliated clubs such as Oreston Karate Club, offering structured training for all ages and levels. Guided by the philosophy Sōgo Chōwa Ni Yoru Heiwa (“Peace Through Mutual Harmony”), BWK emphasizes discipline, respect, and technical excellence. Proudly affiliated with the Alliance of International Wadoryu (AIWa) and the International Wado Federation (IWF), the Honbu continues to uphold the legacy of Wadoryu Karate in the UK.
