About Us
Founded in 2004 and based in Taunton, Somerset, Taunton Longsword Association (TLA) is a club that researches, interprets, and trains members in Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). TLA specializes in the two-handed longsword focusing on the German Tradition as formalized by Johannes Liechtenauer in the 1400s. The club has a diverse membership from various backgrounds and aims to be accessible to all. Members join for reasons such as improving fitness, learning to sword fight, historical interest, and socializing. TLA encourages regular attendance to learn complex moves over multiple sessions, but understands that life can interfere with schedules.
